![]() We shot one day there and it was all about finding the right angles and the right vibe. My girlfriend and I went last summer, with work being the excuse, which was great. What did you want to capture in Provincetown, where Bobby and Aaron go to fundraise for the museum? We also, of course, shot in Provincetown. Otherwise, we used Jersey City for exteriors. It had the scope that we wanted, it’s very big. We used the Newark Art Museum for Billy’s museum because they were doing some renovations. ![]() We are in Newark a lot, which in particular can pass for Midtown as a lot of those buildings were constructed around the same time. And then, for the museum itself, we wanted that to be around Central Park where a lot of museums are. We did get to do some exteriors where they are Citi Biking in Williamsburg as well-Citi dropped off a station for us. Not necessarily a Meatpacking type of club, but something a little more local and in-the-know. When he goes to the, we wanted that to be somewhere out in Brooklyn. Billy’s character lives near Lincoln Center and Columbus Circle, almost on the Upper West Side, and it makes sense for him to be surrounded by the arts as he’s developing this museum. We really wanted it to feel like you were bopping around the city, with particular neighborhoods in mind. So, it automatically read very easily as New York. I always laugh because Los Angeles–based writers love to talk about, oh, run into a New York alleyway. And a lot of it was very specific, you know, Billy is a New Yorker and he knows New York. And, of course, the final product is a pared down version of that original-there are so many cool scenes and sets that there just wasn’t time for. The script that Billy and Nicholas wrote together was wonderful.
